There are two different approaches to product photography: one is where you must photograph the actual product itself in the background; the product can be any display, camera, watch, etc.; the second is lifestyle product photography, where you must photograph the product scene in a set up to accent the product through the scene.
Pay close attention to the color theory associated with a specific product to ensure that you use colors that match the brand and adapt this color theory to fit better the theme colors based on the target audience. For example, products being photographed for a more feminine audience need to tend to use colors on the lighter, softer side of things, while when shooting for a male audience, darker, bolder colors need to be chosen to emphasize the product further.
